Supporting human dignity and radiance through perspective, understanding and touch.
Massage can be a great self-care ritual to promote appreciation for your physical vessel. A massage can be a nourishing and grounding way to send positive feelings to you body for being the home of your soul. Instead of consistently cycling through behaviors stemming from low self-worth, nurture a practice that praises and uplifts your holistic existence.
Through intentional but deep work, tension in the body that may be causing pain and discomfort can be reduced and released. Increased circulation boosts blood flow, which delivers more oxygen and nutrients to your cells. Trauma, repetitive stress, lack of movement can lead to pain and mobility issues. Massage can be a helpful addition to alleviate discomfort by bringing blood flow to adhesed areas with cupping, scraping and deeper pressure.
Parasympathetic Nervous System is the equivalent of pressing the brakes to slow down, rest, digest and reset your body after experiencing stressful events. It is responsible for feelings of calm and ease by lowering heart rate, promoting digestion, reducing blood pressure (essential for cardiovascular health), promotes deeper sleep cycles (essential for mental and physical restoration), supports the immune system to reduce inflammation and promote healing.
Focusing on your sensory experience enhances your ability to be aware of your body and it’s signals. It opens the lines of communication so that you may experience a deeper mode of listening to the subtle whispers of your body.
Fascia is a 3 dimensional collagen matrix that surrounds and penetrates all structures of the body extending from head to toe. It is an innervated, continuous, functional organ of stability and motion. Because fascia connects everything in the body, it helps facilitate the movement of energy through the body’s meridians (energy channels). It can respond to and transmit an instantaneous signal as the superconductor linking all systems.
Train your body to receive and promote positive feelings through a practice of familiarizing yourself with relaxation. Develop the gift of joy and bliss through your own biochemistry by attuning with your body as a significant piece to a grand puzzle.
Swedish-circulatory, faster strokes
Shiatsu-compressions, acupressure, stretching
Myofascial technique-focus on understanding how fascia works to release it with intention and presence.
(Much of why massage works is because of its effect on the nervous system. I love utilizing the above modalities together because I prefer the unique flow I get into with these. It’s my go-to relaxation session that still feels effective in tension relief because of the goldilocks pressure and speed. It’s not meant to be anything too intense, but it’s also not a flimsy, feathery massage. It’s a solid, grounding massage customized to your specific needs).
Deep Tissue-firmer, sustained pressure to allow the body to release tension.
Cupping-suction cups used to bring more blood flow to adhesed areas and reduce stiffness.
Scraping therapy-aka Gua Sha or Grayson technique is helpful for breaking up scar tissue and promoting healthy circulation to blocked or stagnant areas.
(This combination is for more focused work. There’s more focus on specific issues than fluidity).
Lymphatic Drainage-light, soft, strokes to help stimulate lymphatic circulation and assist lymph nodes to drain waste faster.
(Unfortunately, much of our food, water, air and products have been introduced to more toxins and contaminants and modern sedentary lifestyles are not supportive of our waste disposal system. Lymphatic fluid is circulated by muscle contraction meaning it has no pump other than through our own movement. Exercise, rebounding, vibration plates and manual lymphatic drainage are some of the best ways to support your lymphatic system (and clean eating/high quality whole foods as well).
Prenatal Massage-a massage to support a woman’s body during pregnancy. Focus on comfort, relieving pressure and tension from highly strained areas, being cautious of contraindications, and positive relaxation state.
(This usually means there will be side-lying positioning, extra pillows and bolstering to support your body to be as comfortable as possible and extra attention on areas that are under more tension and strain during pregnancy).
Stretching-creating more length and openness in the body to improve muscle elasticity. Improved elasticity through stretching helps prevent injury due to increased muscle control, flexibility, and range of motion.
(Stretching is a vital aspect to healthy fascia because fascia is interconnected to all other systems of the body and allows for communication between them. It is a 3D web-like, collagen structure of stability and motion, but also facilitates the movement of energy through the body’s meridian system. Stretching opens up pathways of communication for increased body awareness.
Heated Stones-improves circulation by causing blood vessels to dilate, softens and loosens stiffened fascia, has a calming effect on nervous system.
(Warmth is a soothing, healing experience for the body. It allows for feelings of safety and relaxation because warmth is comforting and nurturing to the body. It creates openness and softness in fascia that may be otherwise constricted or stiffened due to lack of movement, previous injury/trauma, poor posture, etc. Feelings of safety is key to being able to process and heal from painful, emotional events.
Acupressure- applying pressure to specific points along the body based on the meridian system which are the energy channels or pathways of life force energy according to Traditional Chinese Medicine.
(The goal of acupressure is to restore health and balance in the body and promote relaxation).
ASMR touch-Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response is a tingling sensation in the head and neck brought on by quiet and repetitive movements or sounds. Not everyone responds to ASMR or finds it enjoyable, but those who do experience positive results as a sleep aid, for relaxation and reduced anxiety. The sense of touch is what I would focus on during my sessions because incorporating some light touch lowers unnecessary guarding the body may be putting up for protection. It allows for feelings of safety, relaxation and increased sensitivity. It adds to the massage as a nurturing and pleasing experience.
Energywork/intention/prayer-being present to allow divine energy to work as needed. Using focused thought to direct specific vibrations for healing and peace. Creating the right atmosphere for safety and highest intentions for all. Holding frequencies of love and serenity for attunement with higher states of being. Using prayer to harmonize healing space and invite positive, pristine, loving energies.
